Groundwork Providence is a non-profit organization based in Providence, Rhode Island dedicated to building a cleaner, safer, greener and more beautiful capital city for the State of Rhode Island. Our mission is to foster and awaken the potential of neighborhoods by working in conjunction with residents and businesses to improve the physical environment in economically struggling neighborhoods. We activate and beautify underutilized and polluted parcels, and reconnect the fabric of urban neighborhoods, providing places where people can grow their own food and learn about stewardship of the environment. We target chronically unemployed populations, including ex-offenders, and provide them job training in storm water management and the remediation of brownfields. We are working with the city of Providence to plant 40,000 new trees in Providence and make a true urban forest.
