Trees 2020
Groundwork Providence’s Trees 2020 initiative plans to plant 40,000 trees in the City of Providence by the year 2020.
To achieve this ambitious goal, GWP is building partnerships with the private sector, the City of Providence, and neighborhood organizations.
In 2011, Trees2020 and the members of GroundCorp will develop a new tree nursery in the City of Providence with the goal of producing trees for sale in low-canopy neighborhoods at a fraction of existing market prices.
Trees2020 Tree Nursery
The Urban Landscape Incubator Project (TULIP) is a replicable community tree nursery program designed to empower cities, not-for-profits and community groups to establish low-cost, locally controlled community nurseries on brownfields and other currently derelict land.
The City of Providence will partner with Groundwork Providence to develop the first TULIP and to document and publish the process for replication within the City of Providence and other communities.
The first TULIP nursery will be installed in a low-income, low-canopy neighborhood of Providence and will be designed to produce at least 100 trees per year.
